The World Health Organisation WHO describes a pandemic as the worldwide spread of a new disease. For example: an influenza pandemic occurs when a new influenza virus emerges and spreads around the world, and most people do not have immunity. Viruses that have caused past pandemics typically originated from animal influenza viruses.

From Ebola in West Africa to Zika in South America to MERS in the Middle East, dangerous outbreaks are on the rise around the world. The number of new diseases per decade has increased nearly fourfold over the past 60 years, and since 1980, the number of outbreaks per year has more than tripled.

Most recently Nipah virus (NiV) infection is a newly emerging zoonosis that causes severe disease in both animals and humans.

In what is now a very small world rife with hyperinfectious diseases, experts warn we aren't ready to keep the world safe from the next pandemic. This new audiobook will assess the risk of a pandemic and draw on the advice from countries around the world on what to do to be ready. The Producers would like to acknowledge the support and advice of FEMA and Homeland Security USA
